First impressions matter, don't they? So, to make sure you display a positive image, take care of your personal appearance, greet clients politely, and ensure your desk is prim and proper. This will give clients an insight into your professional image.
The material for construction should be selected depending on the type of item to be placed on these desks. For example, wood, plywood, and high density fiber are used to keep heavy electronic items like TVs and computers; glass desks can be used to keep small clay pots, flower vases, or showpieces; wrought iron caskets with a glass fill can be used to keep only light-weight items. The durability is also considered when thinking of long-term usage.
It should not only be attractive, but also have ample storage facilities. The other side of the desk, where the receptionist sits, should have enough storage cabinets and drawers to hold business files, a cash register, credit card machines, telephones, stationary, first aid kits, extra beauty products, etc.
As such there are no strict rule for ergonomics. Although, it's a science, its basic premise is comfort of the user. Now, there can't be set rule of comfort for everyone. What works for someone, may not work for the other, so be flexible. Nevertheless, don't let physical tension build in your body after working for long hours.
